Lake Victoria Disability Centre was established in 2002 by Dennis Maina. Dennis has a long history of working with the disabled. In 2001, before founding LVDC, he helped establish a pre-vocational unit for blind children here in Musoma which is still running and caters for 50 blind children from all around Mara. The funds to build this centre were raised from an 8 day walk he staged with 2 blind children, between Musoma and Mwanza.
After the blind project took off, Dennis realised that the children who graduated from the centre needed further vocational training. At this time there was also pressing demand for support from a wider circle of people with disabilities. This led Dennis to initiate an all-inclusive training and rehabilitation programme for the disabled youths called the Musoma Engineering Project which has since changed to what we now know as The Lake Victoria Disability Centre.
