Laying of the Foundation Stone

20th of February 2012 was a great day for the Lake Victoria Disability Centre. The main event of the day was the long awaited visit from the AOG representatives led by Dr Manjul Vasant to witness the laying of the foundation stone at the new site which is located in the Nyabange area of Musoma. The guest of honour was The Regional Administrative Secretary of Mara Mr Clement F. Lujaji.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, The RAS himself, Mr Clement Lujaji, Hon Mwita Gachuma Of CCM NEC, Musoma District Commisioner Capt Peter Ngatuni, Former Regional Commisioner and Ambassador Nimrod Lugoe and many other supporters.

A jubilant crowd including singers, dancers and well-wishers greeted the group at the new LVDC site. Dennis welcomed everyone and the ceremony began with speeches from Dr Manjul Vasant, the President of the AOG Dr Pommi Datta and the guest of honour RAS.

The foundation stone of the AOG building which will house the admin office and dental unit was layed by Mr Clement Lujaji RAS and Dr Pommi Datta. Everyone was then invited to plant a tree to commemorate the occassion.

The day was a great success and everyone felt very encouraged and excited by the progress of the construction of the admin block funded by AOG and the four workshops which are funded by AAD Africa Action Deutschland. We were also delighted to have Wendy and David, longterm supporters of projects in Musoma, with us on this special day. They have kindly donated funds for beds for the future dormitories and books for the new classroom.

After a fulfilling and emotional day our guests enjoyed dinner at the Affrilux hotel. Dennis showed a short film about LVDC which had been created by a previous volunteer, Jane Stockdale. The dinner provided an opportunity for informal discussion and the strengthening of relationships between all involved. This memorable occassion marked the start of a new era for LVDC. We thank everyone who attended this event and to all our supporters.

Progress update on our new centre

Exciting progress is being made with the development of our new centre – the students have been busy helping to make bricks and lay foundations. We look forward to our visit from Manny and Meena Vasant and members of The AOG in a few weeks time.

We were lucky to have a doctor and 2 dentists visit us from the UK. They conducted medical check ups and treated our own students and those from the local deaf school. We were extremely grateful for the valued expertise and professional care they had to offer.

LVDC’s NEW WEBSITE (ALMOST)

We hope you like the new look of the site. It’s 95% finished but we’ve put it up anyway just to let you have a look. We’ll be working on the other 5% over the coming weeks and getting the site perfect, so apologies for any design errors, broken links and typos in that time.

LVDC’s new partners!

2011 has been a great year for LVDC and we are all very excited about 2012! With the recent news of securing funding from the organsiation, Africa Action Dutchland (AAD) and the generous donations and long-term support from Dr Manny Vasant, members of the AOG and all our overseas supporters, we are pleased to announce that we will start building a new centre in 2012. The centre will have 2 new workshops and an administration block allowing us to increase our student intake and subsequently be able to help many more disabled youths. We are extremely grateful for all the support we have received and look forward to visits from our partners in 2012.

We look forward to seeing you soon. In the meantime, Merry Chrismas and happy New Year 2012!
