Rona’s week at Tunaweza

Hello again everybody! I have just returned from a fantastic couple of days at Tunaweza Disability Centre in Mwanza.

LVDC and Tunaweza both recently decided that it would be nice idea to exchange the knowledge of our various specialisms with one another. Therefore, last week I was nominated to visit Tunaweza to learn the art of paper-making and shortly, we shall be expecting a staff member from over there to visit us for a week to learn about the process of screen-printing.

The staff and students at Tunaweza were all very kind and welcoming, and took the time to teach me every step required to make my very own paper. It was a wonderful week and I learnt a lot, not only with regards to paper-making – but also of how other disability centres are run. Now I am back, I am very excited to share my new found skills with the staff and students here at LVDC!

Ros' drawing class

LVDC self-portraits

Volunteer Ros held many drawing classes during her time with us. Here is what was produced when she asked LVDC staff and students to draw our faces!

Try to see if you can identify any of us!

LVDC welcomes a new volunteer!

Karibu everyone! My name is Rona, from Edinburgh in Scotland, and I’ll be volunteering here at LVDC until mid-September. My main role over the coming months is to help Bob in the Drawing and Screen-printing department.

I arrived just over a week ago now, and I’m already feeling very settled and enjoying life here in sunny Musoma town. Please do keep checking in for updates on how I’m getting on… Asante sana!

A visit from CIC

We had an organised visit last month from our supporters at Children in Crossfire (CIC). A small group came and spent the day with us to see how their support has helped with the development of the centre and the progress of the students. As well as trying out the LVDC-built tricycles for the disabled, they also got to see the children in their lessons and all the wonderful things that they have made.
We hope it was an enjoyable trip! Thank you CIC for your support!
