In 2009 on December 2nd – World Disability Day – the LVDC celebrated its fifth graduation.
The students all arrived in high spirits and were accompanied at the ceremony by their proud parents and guests. It was wonderful to witness amongst the guests a number of the LVDC’s former students who, along with all the parents and guests, helped provide a tremendous amount of support for the students.
The centre looked fantastic, the workshop itself was transformed and tentatively decorated with beautiful draping garments of purple, blue and white kindly provided by Betha Maiga; a local friend of the LVDC. It was a marvelous occasion and the LVDC were delighted to welcome as their guest speaker the Musoma Rural Member of Parliament; Hon Vedastus Mathayo.
Eleven of LVDC’s youngster’s graduated with vocational skills in carpentry, metal work, tailoring and knitting. The students were each issued with a start-up tool kit, courtesy of a generous grant provided by the Tanzania Development Trust and some of the LVDC’s friends abroad.
Finally, with the proceedings drawing to a close, the LVDC wished all its graduating students the best of luck and success in all their forthcoming pursuits. The students departed with vivacious confidence and independency, ready to meet whatever challenges lie ahead and disparage all lingering doubt from any cynical bystanders.
The LVDC would like to thank The Liliane Foundation, Children in Crossfire, Tanzania Development Trust, Abilis Foundation, Dr. Manjul Vasant , the Cameron family, all our former volunteers and everyone else who has kindly supported the centre and its students throughout their development.
